October Adventures and Photography

October 2015
October was another fun filled month.  I bought a Nissan Pickup truck and took it to several places, beginning with a return trip to Cliff Lake for my October plunge.  I hiked to the impressive Hotlum railroad trestle.  I went on a camping trip with friends at Martin's Dairy Campground where we visited the Hole in the Ground Geological Area and Juanita Lake.  We filmed a couple scenes for my upcoming movie, Kick Ball The Movie, due to be released in Spring of 2016.  On a whim one day I drove out to the Modoc National Forest to find and explore some lava tubes I have been wanting to see.  The next day I took a hiking trip on the east side of Mount Shasta on the Brewer Creek Trail and hiked to tree line.  Such solitude and beauty!  My friend Kalyn and I took a trip to the Warner Mountains and Surprise Valley Hot Springs stopping at Burney Falls on the way.  Incredible trip to say the least!  To wrap up October was a trip to Blue Lake Casino in Humboldt County to see George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic on Halloween night!

Cliff Lake
After a fun filled night camping with my friend Jeff and Oceanna we hiked back to Cliff Lake.  I have posted many photos of Cliff Lake in the past months on my blog but every time I go I like to capture the beauty in new ways.  Jeff and I spotted a fish, first time I have ever seen one in the clear water.

Hotlum Trestle
Nearby Lake Shastina, California there is a large railroad trestle that is quite impressive to visit.  Although after a couple hours of waiting I did not get the chance to see a train cross the trestle, it was still enjoyable to photograph and just relax in the surrounding nature.

Hole in the Ground Geological Area
Although I had visited this strange place earlier in the year I wanted to return to film for Kick Ball The Movie as well as show my friends this geological wonder.  It was a fun hike and will be a good addition to the movie.

It's Gumbo from Kick Ball The Movie!

Modoc National Forest
With no plan I hopped in the truck one morning and found myself in the Modoc National Forest.  I got my forest service map out and decided I would try and find the Ice River Caves.  I eventually did but the ice had melted so the caves were dry but still quite a site!  It was a lot of fun hiking down the lava flow coming across many caves and natural bridges.

Came across this abandoned shack on the abandoned railroad line

Good place for a break

Watch out for random holes in the ground!

It's a longer drop than it looks.

So cool to see the trees growing out of such a thin crust of Earth.

Brewer Creek Trail
The next day I decided to go for a hike on the east side of Mount Shasta.  I have never been to the Brewer Creek Trail so that is where I headed.  I drove the majority of the way and then biked the last several miles up to the trailhead.  There was nobody else hiking the trail that day so I had it all to myself.  Being on Mount Shasta all alone is a humbling experience.  I felt so very small on the massive volcano.  After relaxing for a bit up above tree line I hiked back down to the bike and then the fun bicycle ride back down to the truck.  Great day!

Burney Falls / Warner Mountains / Surprise Valley
My friend Kalyn and I took a super fun road trip to the Warner Mountains and Surprise Valley Hot Springs.  On the way to the Warners we stopped at beautiful Burney Falls.  We camped the first night at almost 7,000 feet and hiked up to Patterson Lake in the morning.  It was a 12.5 mile round trip to an incredible mountain lake where the Native Americans used to go for vision quests.  The hike was a bit cold and very windy on the ridge top so we held off on swimming and made our way to the hot springs resort near Ceadrville, California.  The hot springs were wonderful after a great hike and it was difficult to leave such an amazing place the next morning.  One of the best vacations ever!

George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic
Best Halloween Party I have ever been too, hands down!  Halloween in Humboldt with P-Funk, D.J. Logic, and Object Heavy was outstanding!  My friends Cory, Lynn, and I spent a night at Blue Lake Casino and had a blast at the concert and after party.  We filmed some clips for the Kick Ball Movie and tore the roof off the mutha sucka!  Nice drive up the Redwood Coast on the way home.
